WHA Investor Club Meeting #2 Highlights Green Energy Solutions and Operational Excellence

On 27 September 2024, WHA Industrial Zone 1 - Nghe An hosted the second edition of the WHA Investor Club Meeting, both online and at its office. The event gathered leading investors to discuss critical advancements in green energy solutions and operational excellence, focusing on Vietnam's evolving energy landscape and flood protection infrastructure.

WHA Utilities and Power: Driving Renewable Energy Initiatives

Mr. Chatchalerm Numbenjapol, a representative of WHA Utilities and Power (WHAUP), delivered an insightful presentation on the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism, an innovative scheme allowing businesses to select their electricity suppliers and demonstrate of their green energy consumption and obtain the environmental attribute certificate, driving Vietnam’s shift toward renewable energy. He elaborated on two models: Private Wire DPPA and Virtual DPPA, both promoting renewable sources like solar and wind energy. Mr. Chatchalerm also provided an update on rooftop solar solutions, highlighting WHAUP’s long-term service package, which offers businesses access to clean energy without upfront investment.
WHAUP's role as a leading integrated utilities provider in Thailand was emphasized, along with its power generation capacity of  682 MW as of June 2024, comprising conventional power plant, hydropower, waste-to-energy plants and solar. The presentation also covered Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and Carbon Credits, underlining WHAUP’s efforts in managing energy attributes and trading carbon credits, with a target of 103,000 RECs by 2024.

Operational Excellence in WHA Industrial Zone 1 - Nghe An

Mr. Kampol Noramat, Assistant Director of WHA Industrial Zone 1 - Nghe An, addressed the critical importance of flood protection at the industrial zone. His presentation outlined the comprehensive flood control measures employed by WHA, which include pre-storm preparation, real-time monitoring during storms, and post-storm inspections.
Key infrastructure components such as the longitudinal drainage system, open channels, retention ponds, and stormwater pump stations (with a combined capacity of 28m3/s and equipped with Smart Water Gates) were showcased as integral to ensuring water management efficiency. The dike system surrounding the project and external flood drainage canals further reinforced the flood resilience of WHA Industrial Zone 1. Data from the recent Typhoon Soulik demonstrated the robustness of WHA’s flood control infrastructure.
The meeting concluded with discussions on future plans to enhance operational excellence, positioning WHA Industrial Zone 1 - Nghe An as a leader in sustainability and resilience.
